Evaluation Plan
Plan for Formative Evaluation
The lesson developers will compete a small-group evaluation with three undergraduates students at Virginia Tech who are studying Communication and have an interest in journalism in general. These learners will act as a small sample of potential students that the lesson is intended for. Instructors will ask the potential target learners to complete the learning module as if they were new students at the Collegiate Times. A survey will be distributed after instruction through the link below to evaluate their satisfaction with this learning module and the effectiveness of the instruction. The results will be used to refine the instructional materials and activities in order to improve the quality of instruction in the future.
The formative evaluation survey has been provided as the link below:

Synopsis of feedback from formative evaluation:
Through a small group evaluation session with a representative group of undergraduate students with the plan materials, there were mainly positive responses to the lesson and its materials. Students appreciated the introduction to each section and the interactive nature of the PowerPoints. Students were asking for a downloadable version of key elements from the presentations to become available for them to download in hard copy that they could bring the the "meeting" that would occur. There was also a suggestion while one student was working through the materials to have a narrated feature to the presentations, but did not think that the absence took away from the materials. Student's also liked how the assessment items were more conversation pieces and were not "on-the-spot" test items to take in front of the hypothetical training coordinator at the newspaper. There were also some type-o's and grammatical mistakes in some of the PowerPoints which were noted. From the interaction with students, the evaluators are going to take away and incorporate a few elements and edits back into the lesson:

From the interaction with students, the evaluators are going to take away and incorporate a few elements and edits back into the lesson:
- Downloadable versions of PowerPoint materials
- Further clarity of a "welcome" to the course and new students on the main lesson page and homepage
- Edit PowerPoints for grammar, flow, and clarity
